History

Deshler Middle School was founded in 1966 as Northside Elementary School. The school originally served students in 1st-6th grade. In the mid 1980s Tuscumbia City Schools reorganized their elementary schools and Northside Elementary School became Northside Middle School and served grades 6-8, which continues today. In 2004 Tuscumbia City Schools decided to rename Northside Middle School to Deshler Middle School.

The original building that was built in 1966 is a perfectly round circle. This remained the same until the turn of the century when a new gym was added to the school. Along with the gym addition were three classrooms that serve as a science lab, technology lab, and band and chorus room.

Deshler Middle School has always offered a variety of clubs, sports, and other extracurricular activities. Currently our students have the opportunity to participate in student council, National Junior Honor Society, FCA, and Peer Helpers. DMS offers a variety of sports for students in grades 7 and 8 including football, cross-county, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, cheerleading, softball, baseball, track, tennis, and e-sports. Students can participate in our student choir or our band program. Beginning in 7th grade students who have completed the beginning band class can participate in marching band.
